Build, but software issues...

Post by Roel »

Morning,

I received my Kit and have assembled, with up and downs, last weekend.
After switching on the first time I tried to dail several numbers, and after some tweaking of the gears,
I am able to dail correct numbers. ;)
But that's all...
Following issues:
- Paper display doesn't work, it is full with random pixels and doesn't refresh etc.. see image
- lower buttons to test the bell, or activate paper display do not work
- if I push the Alpha I get a blinking message "incoming call"---?
- in which position should the mic schwitch be..?

What files should be on the SD card..?
I downloaded the repository , the link in the manual doesn´t work, and put all in the root directory..?!
or should I put them in a folder..?
Does the phone something when loading from the SD card..? the startup is still the same without any cards..
I have a telekom German Sim card.. disabled the pin and try to use it...

Maybe the paper display is broke... but why do the lower 4 buttons do not work..?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!!

Best wishes

Roel

I'm very sorry about the condition of the software ... I had started a rewrite to get bare minimum functionality working (contacts, calls), but then my PhD program ate every bit of free time in my life....

It's not documented properly but currently how the SD card works is you put files with the following names:

PREPEND
CONTACT1
CONTACT2
...
CONTACT9
CONTACT0

and the files should just contain the text of the contact phone numbers / area code to prepend. E.g. the contents of PREPEND might be "+1555" (no quotes) and the contents of CONTACT1 might be "+15551234567" (no quotes).

As for the epaper I think Justine is currently working on getting it up and running again. I'm not sure if she is planning to change how the contact settings are stored as she does this.

Of course, since the firmware is open source, we would be very grateful for anyone who wants to explore it, develop forks or even alternate versions of it, contribute fixes, etc.: https://github.com/skysedge/rusp_firmware/

Hi,

I managed to put the latest firmware on the phone..
As a newbie , I first had to understand how to do so, creating a new folder with just the "rusp_firmare" , and learning how to upload.
I can confirm you need to use the mega2560..

Also the paperdisplay works now...

Now I will discover more and see if other things work...
First I need to readjust the gears again, so it takes the correct numbers.

For the assembly, battery and the spring for the bell I have some tricks, which I will post shortly..
because the wires of the battery tend to break off, and the spring is almost impossible to insert according to the manual

I hope the software will get still some updates for the buttons on the lower row like signal strength etc..
and i hope this forum will keep on developing the software

Ciao,

Roel
