You are completely correct about both the board type and the clock. The documentation is out of date.

Hmm. It looks like Justine added some changes to only register the hook press if it's held for more than a second: https://github.com/skysedge/rusp_firmware/blame/main/rusp_firmware.ino#L605

FWIW, the statusline branch was a work in progress and I think it currently will do ugly things like print ...

I'm very sorry about the condition of the software ... I had started a rewrite to get bare minimum functionality working (contacts, calls), but then my PhD program ate every bit of free time in my life....

The chip should indeed be a 2560. Some documentation may be out of date....

That said, the build is all open-source, so it's technically feasible to build your own, with a lot of work.
